The Red Elephant Wexford – A Family Favourite for More Than Eight Years

The Red Elephant on Wexford Quay has been part of our family’s dining life for at least eight years. There was a time when we seemed to be there almost every week for lunch, and over the years it has also been the setting for birthdays, family get-togethers and plenty of relaxed meals together.

That history is exactly why it belongs in our Taste of Wexford guide. This is not somewhere we have visited once for the purposes of writing a review. It is somewhere we have returned to again and again because the food, service and value have consistently worked for us as a family.

Asian Food in Wexford Town – Fresh, Tasty and Full of Flavour

The Red Elephant describes itself as Asian street food, and the menu brings together the sort of dishes we love: noodles, curries, rice dishes, stir-fries, grilled dishes and plenty of Asian flavours. The official menu currently includes favourites such as Pad Thai, green and red curries, Massaman curry, grilled chicken with cashew nuts and chargrilled duck.

For us, though, the attraction is much simpler: the food is really tasty. The flavours are bold, there is plenty of choice for different members of the family and it is the sort of menu that makes it very easy to keep returning without everyone having to order the same thing every time.

Excellent Value for Lunch in Wexford

One of the reasons The Red Elephant became such a regular lunch spot for us is value. We have always found it very affordable for the quality and quantity of food, which makes a real difference when you are dining with a family rather than just going out as a couple.

And then there is the little extra at lunchtime that our family has always enjoyed: the complimentary scoop of ice cream. It is a lovely finishing touch and exactly the sort of thing children remember — although, as with Ramen’s soft-serve, we certainly would not suggest the adults object to it either.

Spacious Booths and Plenty of Room for Families

The restaurant works particularly well for families and groups. There is plenty of space, and the booths make it comfortable when there are several of you dining together. We have celebrated family occasions here as well as popping in for ordinary lunches, and it has always felt equally suited to both.

Exceptionally Good Service

Good food is only part of the reason a restaurant becomes a long-term favourite. Over all the years we have been going to The Red Elephant, the service has been exceptionally good. Friendly, efficient service matters enormously when you are eating out with children or a larger family group, and it is one of the things that has kept us returning.

When guests staying at Captiva Wexford ask us for somewhere relaxed and affordable to eat in Wexford Town, particularly with children or a mixed-age family group, The Red Elephant is an easy recommendation. It has plenty of choice, lots of space, very good service and food that we have personally enjoyed for years.

The fact that our own photographs stretch across years of family lunches and celebrations probably says more than any restaurant review could. We have kept going back — and that is the strongest recommendation we can give.
