Vine Restaurant Wexford – Authentic Thai Food in a Beautiful Main Street Setting
Welcome to Taste of Wexford – The Captiva Food & Drink Guide, our personal collection of restaurants, cafés, bars and food experiences around County Wexford that Carmel and I genuinely enjoy and are happy to recommend to our guests.

Vine Restaurant Wexford – Hidden Above Main Street
Carmel was out with friends for another evening at a restaurant we have enjoyed many times over the years – Vine Restaurant on Wexford’s Main Street. And Vine is one of those restaurants where the experience begins before you have even reached your table.
Walking along Wexford’s busy Main Street, the entrance to Vine is surprisingly understated. Look for the black VINE Restaurant – Est. 2001 sign against the old red-brick façade and the impressive stone doorway beside it.

Step through those doors and you enter a completely different environment. The old tiled floor, high archway and wrought-iron Vine gates lead you towards a wonderful old-world staircase and up into the restaurant itself. There is something slightly intriguing about the approach – you know you are heading somewhere with character rather than into a conventional modern restaurant.

A Dining Room Full of Atmosphere
Vine has one of the more distinctive dining rooms in Wexford Town. High ceilings, decorative plasterwork, dramatic lighting, deep red walls and dark wood give the restaurant a warm, atmospheric feel.

The raised mezzanine level overlooking the main dining room makes particularly good use of the building’s height and gives the restaurant an almost theatrical quality. It feels intimate without feeling cramped and lively without being overpowering. For a dinner with friends, a couple’s evening out or a family meal, it is a lovely setting.

Authentic Thai Food in the Heart of Wexford
Of course, atmosphere only gets a restaurant so far. The reason we have returned to Vine over the years is the authentic Thai food.
There is a genuinely extensive choice, with traditional Thai curries, wok dishes, Pad Thai, duck, seafood, soups and vegetarian and vegan choices all represented on the menu. There is plenty of variety, whether you want a familiar favourite or feel like trying something different.

A Great Selection to Share
Carmel and her friends decided to share the Vine Combo to start. It was a great-looking platter of different appetisers, including chicken satay, coated prawns, golden wontons and spring rolls, accompanied by dipping sauces – an ideal way of trying several flavours rather than having to choose just one starter.

A Thai Green Curry That Hit the Spot
For her main course, Carmel chose the Thai Green Curry with chicken, accompanied by rice. It was exactly what you want from a good Thai curry – fragrant, creamy, packed with flavour and with that lovely balance of coconut milk, herbs and heat. Most importantly, it was delicious.

The menu gives you plenty of reasons for a return visit too, with curries, stir-fries, noodle dishes, duck, seafood and vegetarian choices. Choosing what to order can take a while – but that is a nice problem to have.

Friendly, Attentive Service
Something else that stood out during the evening was the service. The servers were very friendly, efficient and attentive throughout, without constantly hovering around the table.
That balance makes such a difference to an evening out. You want to be looked after, but you also want to relax, chat and enjoy the company you are with. Carmel and her friends certainly did.
Good Food Without an Eye-Watering Bill
Vine also scores well with us for value. Eating out has become noticeably more expensive, so finding somewhere that combines a proper sit-down restaurant experience, an atmospheric dining room, attentive table service and very good food while remaining reasonably priced is increasingly important.
Vine manages that balance particularly well. We do not hard-code menu prices into our guide because restaurant menus inevitably change, so it is always best to check the restaurant’s current menu before visiting.

Why We Recommend Vine to Captiva Wexford Guests
When guests staying at Captiva Wexford ask us for somewhere in Wexford Town for a good evening meal, Vine is very easy to recommend. It is right on Main Street, yet once you have climbed the stairs into that atmospheric dining room, it feels removed from the street below.
You have a characterful setting, a huge choice of authentic Thai dishes, friendly service and food that we have enjoyed on repeated visits. And that is important to us. Taste of Wexford is not about restaurants we have visited once simply to write a review. We want it to reflect the places Carmel and I – and our family and friends – actually choose to visit ourselves. Vine is one of them.

A Personal Recommendation from Us
Every place in Taste of Wexford – The Captiva Food & Drink Guide is somewhere we have personally visited and would happily recommend to our own guests. Vine combines something we particularly like: great food with a genuine sense of place.
From stepping through that old doorway on Main Street and climbing the staircase to settling into the atmospheric dining room and enjoying some delicious Thai food, it is an experience rather than simply somewhere to eat.
Well worth a visit.
Enjoy your meal!
